For the second time within less than ten years, Ursuline students were able to gather together on our front campus for a special viewing party of a solar eclipse! On the afternoon of Monday, April 8, 2024, students and coworkers took the opportunity to experience the celestial phenomenon on the front lawn of Hartnett Hall. Though not in the path of totality this time, Ursuline Academy St. Louis experienced a 98% eclipsed sun, that began around 12:45 p.m. and reached 98% around 2:00 p.m.
Dr. Judy Anderson, our Chemistry and Physics teacher, led numerous groups of students in viewing the eclipse with a colander in order to experience a pinhole projection of the sun. With the numerous trees on campus, nature also provided a unique means to view the eclipse, seeing the crescent-shaped shadows on the ground. It was such a special day to have been able to share in this second-in-a-lifetime experience with our Ursuline school community. Being able to learn about our world in such a way, helps our students to experience what it means to be a part of something bigger than themselves.
