When it comes to business, some of the best ways to learn are by doing. A real-world project is an incredibly valuable learning tool for students that provides hands-on experience with the chance to formulate a campaign from start to finish. This year’s marketing class was able to put what they were learning into practice by working with Ursuline’s Advancement office to create this year’s Auction Fund a Need video. From the start of the project, students were given the opportunity to hear from Kim Vogt, Ursuline’s Director of Advancement, to learn more about the scope of the project and what the Auction team was looking for in a campaign video. The students then did research by looking at previous auction videos, evaluating what was good about them, what they could add to them, and what could they produce with the resources available to them.
This year’s Fund-A-Need, is focused on refreshing the library, counseling center, and campus ministry spaces to better equip them for collaborative learning, private study, and improved social gathering spaces. The class was split into four groups and they set off on their projects. Mrs. Murphy incorporated each phase of the project into class lessons, from storyboarding to filming, feedback sessions, and editing the final videos.
“Our students not only have great skills but they also have great insight into these needs for our communal spaces, and so we thought what better way to bring them into the process than letting them be a part of it,” said Kim Vogt. “We’re excited to unveil their hard work at the Auction!” Thank you to Mrs. Jaylene Murphy and her Marketing students for their hard work on this collaborative project.
