Josie Naeger ’24, a multisport athlete since her freshman year, has had several exciting updates to her athletic career. Late last month, during the September 29 varsity field hockey game, Josie scored the game-winning goal in a shoot-out against Nerinx Hall. This goal overturned a seven-game losing streak to the Markers dating back to 2014, and Josie's impressive shot was the first goal the Bears snuck past a Nerinx Hall goalie in the last five meetings.
Josie scored during the penalty shoot-out against the Markers, performing a move called an "air dribble," where she juggled the ball on her stick as she approached the goal, then flicked it over the head of onrushing Nerinx goalie and into the cage. Greatly supported by UA Goalie Taylor Wuennenberg ’25, Forward Ava Elking ’23, Midfielder Julia Lammert ’23, and Defense Natalie Sommerhauser ’23, this win was an incredible team effort and a great accomplishment.
Josie’s next exciting update came as an announcement in regard to the future of her athletic career. In early October, Josie announced her verbal commitment to play Division I Field Hockey at Indiana University. She would begin her collegiate career in the fall of 2024. Playing field hockey at Ursuline Academy, in addition to being on the varsity swim & dive and soccer teams, we are excited for this next step in Josie’s athletic career. Congratulations Josie!
